Pastor Tom Has Left the Building

I have been trying to gather my thoughts for two days before writing this, and I still don't know how to say it. Pastor Tom and Suzanne (the music pastors at Rez) have resigned. They said it was the hardest thing they have ever done in their life, but for the last year they have just been struggling with giving their whole hearts to the ministry. Finally, after continually seeking God, they have decided that He has something else for their future.

Undoubtedly, everyone who has heard Pastor Tom sing and play will miss his tremendous musical gifts, but I will also miss the man. I will miss his humor, his heart for God, his love for people and his leadership. He will possess those qualities wherever he ends up, but I will not get to see them as intimately as I did being in his presence almost every Thursday night for choir practice for over 7 years.

The Lord has reminded me that Pastor Tom's abilities and anointing come from Him, and He can give those giftings to the new music pastor as well. I have to wonder now if in my flesh I was unknowingly worshipping the worship leader rather than He Who is Worthy of Praise. Certainly I held him above any other worship minister in the world. And as Pastor John said this weekend, "It is not about a man. It is about Jesus, and we should keep our eyes focused on Him."

That's sad, and his loss will definitely be noticed. But as you said, our worship is not for man but for God alone, and our ability to worship is not ultimately dependent on a leader, choir, or musician's giftedness.

You had mentioned to me when I saw you last that you thot that Pastor Tom was thinking of leaving.

I'm sure that the leadership at Rez will search high and low for another musician to lead the music and worship segment of your service. I won't say replace, cause I think you know Pastor T can't be replaced, but his job can be transferred to another...right?
